The first tranche of the EU guidelines for breast cancer screening and diagnosis is on line, as an outcome of the European Commission Initiative on Breast Cancer (ECIBC), aiming at improving and harmonising breast cancer care in Europe.

The development of the guidelines, based on the most recent evidence, is coordinated by the European Commission’s Joint Research Center (JRC), established in Ispra, Italy. The JRC supports EU policies with independent, high-quality scientific evidence.

The ECIBC website hosts the recommendations that are progressively released, in different versions made bespoke for the needs of women, professionals, and policy makers. The guidelines cover the screening and diagnosis, while the post-diagnosis part of the cancer pathway is covered by a platform including a selection of existing recommendations.

CPO is playing an important role in this initiative, by participating in the ECIBC working groups for recommendations and quality assurance in breast cancer care. Want to know more?
